As an addict with 37 years in recovery without a slip..........I will assure you that you are 100% correct Chris Putnam.....Conell likely knew that himself. And I would probably be safe in saying he likely knew himself what the side effects of Ativan was. When you play with fire long enough your bound to get burned. I have made ALL my medical physicians aware of my dependency and have yet to be prescripted narcotics for any pain relief or medical problem. Even through heart operations, oral surgery, knee surgery etc. Advil, Bayer and Tylynol.......still a sad situation for Conell regardless. To thine ownself be true!!
My first thought was, if it wasn't a suicide, did someone else hang him? That makes no sense, even if he was under the influence of this medication he still committed suicide. What else would one call it even if it was due to a medication.
Either way, surely his death will be a great loss to his family. Bless them all.
I agree with you, Chris. Nonetheless, that doesn't take away the pain his family must feel.
Chris Cornell was an extremely talented and intelligent man. I read an interview with him some years ago where he spoke of sobering up and reforming Sound Garden. He said the creativity of the band had never been higher since the booze bottles and drugs were no longer part of the scene. I'm a big fan of Cornell's work and will miss him greatly.
Some may blame him for bad choices, but who hasn't made those? Some of us are lucky enough to redeem themselves, and it certainly seemed he was trying and was somewhat successful.
I wish his poor family the best. I will miss him, my son misses him, and I know many will too.
Right, blame the pills. It just goes to show you, life without Jesus Christ can lead to suicide. Also, stop covering for this loser. he took himself away from his family, and that is inexcusible. No reason for this. Just like Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain, if you kill yourself when you have a family or have it all, you are a loser.
My stepbrother was on a bad path. Then he had some tragedies with his family. Instead of blaming God, he followed Jesus and now is one of the most beautiful men on this planet.
He and I had our differences, but we have healed that wound. Please give Chris Cornell that same forgiveness. He wasn't in his right state of mind, but by all accounts, he was trying. Pray for him rather than condemn him.
My best to you and your loved ones.
People who commit suicide are actually thinking about everyone else. It just doesn't seem that way to us.
People who commit suicide are not in the right frame of mind. They, being in that wrong frame of mind, believe whole heartly that everyone would be 'better off without' or that they are 'burdening' everyone else.... so they end their life in hopes not to be a bother and end a personal turmoil.
Benzos are one of THE worst psychotropic 'legal' drugs prescribed, and doctors are far too quick to (over) prescribe them. They are extremely difficult to withdraw from and cause major mood changes. In fact, every time I hear about a mass shooting or some other inexplicable murderous rampage, I automatically think that one of these anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, anti-whatever is involved.
I am calling it now: I see her trying to sue the pharmicutical company the moment that the toxicology report comes up positive for a high dose of [insert whatever prescription drugs he was on]
I guess 'take as directed' doesn't mean anything these days.
When Phil Hartman's wife shot him. The family sued the Pharmicutical company because they say the drug made her do it. In the Phil Hartman's Wife case: They conveniently left out that 'take as directed' means not doing cocaine and drinking at the time she shot him...I guess that was just a suggestion.
That very well could be what happened. I had a bad reaction to Ativan. There were blackouts where according to family , I did bizarre things. It is a wonder I didn't hurt myself. If this is the reason, please put that knowledge to good use, in his honor. I'm so sorry., so sorry for your loss.
I had a daughter who took Prozac and it made her so crazy she downed the whole bottle of pills like 28 pills. She was lucky she survived it. But any anxiety or depression medication the person needs to be watched extremely close. I had know idea she took the whole bottle of pills. Until morning when I tried to wake her and she was in the middle of a seizure.
Prayers to the family.
Taking a few Latvian is not going to cause someone to commit suicide anymore than having a few drinks, actually that alcohol is worse, stop trying to push anti- anxiety medication propaganda. Sounds more like the guy was murdered and than covered up.
