“The View” co-star Joy Behar ripped Bill and Hillary Clinton as bad for the Democratic Party on Tuesday, calling the former president “radioactive” and the former presidential nominee a “distraction.”
“I think that Bill Clinton is radioactive and that he doesn’t help the party,” Behar said. “Hillary Clinton, I think, is a problem, too ... She was like tabula rasa [during the election], a blank slate that everyone could project their hatred on to and that did not help the party at all. I think that it's a distraction because people will continue to hate the poor woman and then forget about the real policies.”
Behar made the comments while “The View” hosts discussed the future of the Democratic Party and potential future candidates.
Co-host Sunny Hostin responded by asking whether or not Behar felt President Donald Trump was radioactive for the Republican Party in the same way.
“He’s still in office, and he has the power right now,” Behar answered. “We’ll see what happens with him.”
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg also weighed in on the discussion, comparing the media distractions that Behar claimed surrounded Hillary Clinton during and after the 2016 presidential election to those that have long surrounded President Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon.
“He’s out there talking also. He made some controversial comments overseas as well when he spoke at a rally for France’s anti-immigration national front party,” Goldberg said. “He told the crowd, ‘Let them call you racists and wear it as a badge of honor.’ Now, this is the chief strategist at the White House. Shouldn't he shut the hell up, too?”
Bannon, who was removed from his role as White House chief strategist in August 2017, was a surprise speaker at a far-right gathering in France over the weekend. During his speech, he told the crowd that they should allow themselves to be called racists, xenophobes, and nativists.
