A new report claims the White House's former chief strategist Steve Bannon speculated that Trump had only a 30 percent chance of finishing his first term in office.
Amid multiple calls for the president's impeachment, Vanity Fair reported that Bannon thought Trump's time in the White House would end with his Cabinet voting to remove him from office. Bannon, according to Wednesday's report, told Trump several months ago that his greatest threat was his colleagues in the White House, most of whom Trump reportedly said he hated.
But when Bannon referenced the Constitutional amendment — the 25th — allowing his Cabinet to depose the president, Trump didn't know what it was. “What's that?” Trump reportedly asked Bannon when he brought up the amendment.
Vanity Fair's reporting came at an apparently tense time for the Trump administration, with rumors flying that the president's senior advisers lack confidence in him. Just last week, NBC News reported that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called the president a “moron” after a meeting with other administration officials.
The frustration is apparently mutual as Trump, according to Vanity Fair, said he hated almost everyone in the White House. “I hate everyone in the White House! There are a few exceptions, but I hate them!” Trump reportedly said.
