One-time Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich spoke with Laura Ingraham about President Donald Trump and current House Speaker Mitch McConnell's tumultuous relationship in an interview released Friday.

Gingrich, who has been a staunch supporter of Trump in the past, had some pointed words for the president where his current criticisms of McConnell were concerned:

Calling the president's ire towards McConnell “misplaced,” Gingrich went on to say that Trump shouldn't “pick a fight with a guy you need as a teammate” and that he doesn't “understand what the president thinks he's accomplishing.”

“I don't think there is [a strategy to Trump's actions],” Gingrich said. “I think the president has his instinct for being aggressive and he's unhappy, but he also he doesn't want to take responsibility,” he continued.

Gingrich also took a moment to point out that the president and McConnell were a “team” and that “you could argue he's the leader of the team, so if things aren't working, maybe, he needs to take part of the ownership here.”

IntegrityImportant(2 likes)I'm surprised by Newt's comments. Perhaps he's thinking back to the flak he took . . .?? Anyway, first, McConnell, in a large public presentation, said that the POTUS's expectations were too high, that he didn't understand how things worked in DC" (paraphrased somewhat). The POTUS obviously didn't take that comment well considering that for 7 years the Repubs tried over and over to repeal Obamacare knowing it was safe to do so becaue even if they got the repeal through both houses, Obama would veto it. It would appear that for the entire 7 years all the reps thought about was repeal and didn't give much, if any, thought to replacement. IMO POTUS is right to expect that stuff happens. When it can be done in a few months why take a few years? Even if POTUS travels the country talking up a replacement ACA, will that mean the Senate will work any faster or any better to get the work done? If the past is any indication, then one has to answer it's doubtful!
@OtisamsoniteBack when Newt was in Congress, the libs hated him of course, but he worked with them and got things done. President Reagan and Tipsy O'Neill were polar opposites politically, but they got things done. This Congress wouldn't agree on how to extinguish a fire if it broke out during a State of the Union address.
