Gingrich, who has been a staunch supporter of Trump in the past, had some pointed words for the president where his current criticisms of McConnell were concerned:
Calling the president's ire towards McConnell “misplaced,” Gingrich went on to say that Trump shouldn't “pick a fight with a guy you need as a teammate” and that he doesn't “understand what the president thinks he's accomplishing.”
“I don't think there is [a strategy to Trump's actions],” Gingrich said. “I think the president has his instinct for being aggressive and he's unhappy, but he also he doesn't want to take responsibility,” he continued.
Gingrich also took a moment to point out that the president and McConnell were a “team” and that “you could argue he's the leader of the team, so if things aren't working, maybe, he needs to take part of the ownership here.”
