On Thursday, Candy Woodall of PennLive.com was by Jeffrey Lord's side during the aftermath of his dismissal as a CNN commentator for tweeting the Nazi salute “Sieg Heil” at Media Matters President Angelo Carusone.
Lord received numerous calls throughout the day, but one, in particular, appeared to bolster his resolve — a call from Stephen K. Bannon.
“Lord gave a quick series of answers to Bannon, ultimately noting there was a reporter in the house and he needed some time to consider his options before strategizing,” Woodall wrote.
Lord refused to comment on the contents of the call, including why Bannon would reach out in the middle of the escalating tensions with North Korea.
He did tell Woodall that North Korea was a “major league” problem, especially compared to his issues with CNN.
Lord is insistent that the “Sieg Heil” line was him jokingly calling Carusone a fascist.
“You're not supposed to make fun of Nazis?” he asked. “I don't think so. I do not ever intend to be quiet. If I had to do it all over again, I would.”
